   Yeah, but unless publishing the book was their idea, they tend to want a   
   lot more money than I have, so I'm making do with volunteer betareaders   
   instead.   
      
      
   But even though I'd be happy to get some editorial input, I'm kind of   
   sympathetic to people who have editor aversion because of running into   
   some power-happy idiot who was somehow put in charge of a publishing   
   project.   
      
   My mother donated some material to a historical book about the area she   
   grew up in, and the book's editor "corrected" a number of things in my   
   mother's contributions, and didn't bother to send my mother any proofs,   
   but just sent the "corrected" material straight off to the printer.   
      
   So now my mother gets the joy of being credited as the author of an   
   article in which her own family name is consistently spelled wrong,   
   (amoung other problems).   
      
   That sort of thing is enough to give anyone hives.
