Weren't a fair number of Heinlein's characters       qualified as irascible assholes?              Wasn't Dirty Harry an irascible asshole? Isn't pretty much every       character Bruce Willis ever played an irascible asshole with a sense of       humor?              Don't the irascible assholes of the world like to see other irascible       assholes win when they're in the right?              Don't sell yourself short, use what you have. If you're really an       irascible asshole then let your protagonists be irascible assholes while       you just sit back and look really good. |
