Tankers actually need physical strength       women don't possess for their various duties. Setting up camo netting, fixing       tracks, and just loading the gun all require significant upper body strength.        France limited        tank crews to 5'4'' and less, but never used women.               I bet I've spent more hours in an M60 than you have, even though I didn't wind       up in armor. In an M60 a tank crewman would have had to be stronger than the       average person because several of the tasks you might have to accomplish       require it. However,        being _small_ would be a huge advantage. I have never spent any time in an M1       but people tell me that the advantage for small size is still there. Tests for       small and strong are better than generalizations.              And the reason no one does it is because no one has done it. That's because       people have a herd mentality and that isn't a big deal because they aren't       trying to write speculative fiction. And neither are you.              --        Will in New Haven              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
