   "Anime". Though not "manga" which apparently has Japanese roots and   
   doesn't seem to be related to "magazine" despite the resemblance in   
   pronounciation.  And then I'm not sure what to call what happened when   
   someone in Japan used Urd, Skuld and Verdandi as characters in a manga   
   and later anime series.  Japanese pronounciation being what it is, when   
   someone decided to translate it into English (as Oh, my Goddess) with no   
   previous knowledge of the mythical source of the names turned Verdandi   
   into Belldandy.
