   The clones that are modeled after actual TV characters could be a real problem   
   if your work is published and widely distributed, and if you actually use the   
   names, such as "Picard."   
      
   At the worst, you might be in violation of copyright, which could lead to a   
   "Cease and Desist" letter from a lawyer, or perhaps even a lawsuit.   
      
   At best, if you use the names, you might be labeled as a writer of "fan   
   fiction."   
      
   My son's a lawyer, and we've had numerous discussions concerning copyright.
