But note that what Lewis liked most about it was that, as far as he
knew (and as far as I know), it was the first successful novel by a
male author written from the P.O.V. of an ugly woman.

Lewis made Christianity part of his works because Christianity was part
of his life. Most "Christian" fiction, unfortunately, is mere banner
waving and "Hoo-ray for our side", of no more literary or religious
worth (and sometimes less) than the 1970s licensed "Christian Archie"
   comics.
