      So are the spices.  However, they're usually cut with sawdust or insect   
   parts or something else really unpalatable.  I used to get very cheap cumin   
   and turmeric in Indian markets, but I've stopped doing that because the   
   quality is so unpredictable.  You're probably okay with the canned stuff,
