From: mdhangton@gmail.com              I have a question about Google Groups that I have wanted to ask, but I didn't       think it was appropriate to ask here...so I haven't in the past...but I don't       know a meaningful place to ask it.              Let us say you start a thread titled Shameless Self-Promotion!!!, which says       you've offered your latest novel _Mr. Spock Smokes a Cigarette_ on Amazon.              It exists for a week and you look at the Google Groups page for rasfc, and it       says beside your entry              1 post, 3 views              Does "3 views" mean total views through any means of seeing usenet groups, or       does it only count the people who viewed it using Google Chrome or Google       Groups website?              Why I ask this is that some writers in this day and age work to promote       themselves on Facebook, Twitter, get their friends to write warm Amazon       reviews for them, whatever, to show some publishing executive or literary       agent they have an internet presence.        When these guys see 3 views, do they say, "What a loser! Screw him and his       crappy Mr. Spock novel."              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
