I got a chuckle out of the opening of Dirk’s _Ein Prinz zu
Tulivar_; it’s due out next year from Atlantis Verlag, but
the first two chapters have been previewed on the
   publisher’s site. My translation:

It was cold, it was dark, and snow lay everywhere.

Nevertheless, we were determined to find out who
      could pee further.

It was the neap tide, when the baga venture out of their
holes to root for sandtatties. The waves whispered
rhythmically over the packed sand: haggisss, haggisss,
   haggisss.
