   I tried to read the former, as I liked the concept a lot.  Alas, by the   
   time I'd gotten a few dozen chapters in, I found myself uttering the   
   Eight Deadly Words (I don't *care* what happens to these characters) and   
   giving up.  The second is a hoot.
