   That's actually a good insight on how to write characters/situations   
   that don't resemble you/yours.  And now I remember the remark of   
   one of the characters in Kagan's _Hellspark_, with the badly   
   "chamfered" mixed-culture expedition who were all just short of   
   each other's throats because of cultural assumptions and lack   
   thereof.  He said, in effect, "The way to get along with people   
   is to remember that THEY'RE ALL CRAZY," while pointing at himself.
