   I don't mind dealing with what happened to the Kalmar Union, but I don't   
   think that, if it still existed, the Kalmar Union would have much impact   
   on English/American settlers in Ohio in 1800.  Not unless it decided to   
   play a major role in their recent war for independence, and I have yet   
   to come up with any reason why it would.   
      
   Also, since all the parts of the union continued to retain a national   
   identity, I think the father would likely have self-identified as being   
   from Sweden or Norway etc, etc, rather than saying he was from "the
