   I only see this happen if you have formatted a block of text in 12pt   
   font, then change a few characters within the block to 14pt.  Or   
   something similar.   
      
   Or if you specify a spacing between lines in points, and the font size   
   is too large for it.   
      
   I use the 2002 version of Word.  I vaguely remember other things   
   happening in older versions, like Word 4.
