From: brendawriter@yahoo.com              Four or five years ago I went to a sushi lunch with Madeleine Robins in       San Francisco, and we rapidly sketched out a fascinating story set in       1865. We agreed to co-author it. Volleys of email flew. An Excel time       line was generated. Some epistolatory ms flew back and forth. But it       refused to take off and fly, and eventually we both moved on to other,       less recalcitrant projects.              Fast forward to this February. A slot in an anthology appeared. I went       to the tangle of story idea and turned the heap over and over with a hay       fork. There was an end sticking out. I grabbed it and pulled, and it       didn't break off. I tied a slip knot in it and cast on, and it still       didn't break off. so I knitted it as fast as I could. In three days it       was a short story, four thousand words. It is a little, but not much       like, the original story as Mad and I sketched out. I sent it to her and       asked her if she wanted to tinker with it, but she agreed that it was       perfect as it was. So! "Mr. Lincoln's Elephant" will appear in July, at       Westercon.              Brneda              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
