   My understanding is that colleges repeatedly beg their alumni for   
   donations.  High schools don't.  Or at least public high schools   
   don't.  Since I never went to college, I've never been guilt-tripped   
   into donating to any university.  (Well, except for the MIT Museum,   
   which requested donations from any visitors who were not affiliated   
   with MIT.)   
      
   High school reunions are arranged by classmates, not by the schools   
   themselves.  Or at least that's my experience.
