   Yep, you can get an iPhone here in New Zealand for various prices / plans,   
   including at one extreme the iPhone being free and at the other paying just   
   for the handset and using it with a pre-pay SIM card. You can also choose to   
   not use it with the official Vodafone and instead use Telecom NZ ... not   
   that either company is any good service-wise.  :-(
