Disney invented Alladdin? Disney invented Snow White and the Wicked

They got to mine a rich public domain and take it private. I say a
rich public domain makes for a richer culture. SFTV says 28 years. I
could live with something as long as forty. But a century is too
long. The culture should belong to the culture, and cultural elements
from two generations ago should no longer be private.

If you want to build a private copy of Hearst Castle in your back
yard, then you can. Why should society be prohibited forever from
replicating a story from its culture? Why can Disney mine public
domain for stories that they then claim as private property forever?
