   They invented their versions. You're welcome to do your own version of   
   those characters. There are people who specialize in just that; ripping   
   off whatever Disney is doing as closely as possible.

   Well, that's not even remotely the situation, so it's hard to argue.   
   Disney's not stopping you from making your own cartoon version of Snow   
   White; they just own the parts of their version of the story that they   
   created. And why shouldn't they?   
      
   You want to make Snow White? Go back to the original, create your own   
   characters, add your own embellishments, and make your own Snow White.   
   Society isn't enriched by you stealing Disney's work, only you are.   
      
   And you might just have a problem duplicating Hearst Castle. Go try to   
   build a copy of the Empire State Building without permission, and see   
   how far you get.
