I think some people just can't get passed the "cartoon factor."
Before I ever watched the animated series, I read a couple of Foster's
novelizations of the animated stories, which I presume predisposed me
to appreciate the series when I finally got to watch the whole thing.
At $25 for the DVD set (Amazon), it's a worthwhile addition to a Trek
   video collection regardless.
