   I liked the episode, but the whole "people who speak by referencing   
   allegory" thing *is* stupid.  Just how did they ever write a technical   
   manual or develop abstract thought in the first place?  There is no   
   level on which it makes sense, and for the aliens to think that they   
   could reference their own stories to outsiders and expect them to   
   understand the meaning is absurd.  These people can build ships but   
   not understand what a "common frame of reference" is?
