   Actually, a LITTLE radiation *is* good for you.   
   They did experiments with a zero radiation environment (probably on rats,   
   can't remember now) and the control rats lived longer.   
      
   We evolved with background radiation, it's part of our environment and it   
   seems that removing it can cause problems with DNA. As if DNA "expects" to   
   be damaged and the repair mechanisms in cells with nothing to do can go   
   cockeyed. DNA does get minor repairs to it as it divides.
