Paramount and CBS Attack 'Star Trek' Fan Film Because Klingon Is Copyrighted:              "There are plenty of Star Trek fan series and fan films out there, including a       few that manage to draw in the original stars. But Paramount and CBS--the       current rights holders to the franchise--zeroed in on Axanar, a fan film taking       place in the era of the original series. Their complaints are many, including       but not limited to copyright infringement for using the Klingon language.              Perhaps Paramount and CBS are trying to set a precedent with the case. Maybe       it's that, unlike a lot of fan productions, Axanar raised its production funds       on Kickstarter, turning a fan project into a $648,000 professional-quality       movie with moderately well-known actors, including two Battlestar Galactica       alumni. Maybe it's the hubris Axanar's producers had in claming their film       "[violates] CBS copyright less than any other fan film." But Paramount and CBS       came down on the production hard, drafting a detailed 48-page brief on every       way the production violates its copyright on Star Trek, right down to using the       Klingon language."              See:              http://www.popularmechanics.com/culture/movies/news/a19907/cbs-p       ramount-axanar-klingon-language-copyright/              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
