   If Trek were more realistic, I could see it. It would use less energy to   
   dock or launch the mobile part once in a while than to constantly   
   disintegrate and reconstitute everyone. Given that Trek seems to be in a   
   fantasy world of unlimited energy, though, then it does seem pointless.
