   There is a fan theory, that you are likely familar with, that believes that   
   the past the Master was showing the Doctor was actually the Master's, i.e.   
   the Master is the Timeless Child and "mass murdering genocidal monster,"   
   and not the Doctor.   
      
   The Master only pretended that it was the Doctor's past to trick the Doctor   
   into thinking the Doctor was evil in hopes that the Doctor would then   
   reunite with the Master and they could do evil together.   
      
   Of course, I have heard that RTD2 doubled-down on the Timeless Child really   
   being the Doctor, so there is that.
