   communicate on Usenet at a higher level than he is able to

   Perfectly acceptable. Readers of either group can choose to   
   reply, choose not to reply, or trim the non-relevant group and   
   respond accordingly to whichever group their comments do apply.   
      
   Nobody forces Dave to reply to every single post here.
