   They were paid in oil, natural gas, steel, and wood, things that can be   
   traded for money or used to make industrial products that can be sold at a

   In today's world, I'd rather be paid in natural resources than in dollars,   
   epecially if the natural resources were supplied at a discounted rate.

   The post-1945 Soviet Union was not nearly as violent a country
