   I doubt that he's actually mentally ill in any medical   
   sense.  He does, however, see the world through an   
   uncommonly rigid and effective ideological filter and as a   
   result is completely (and I think irrevocably) out of touch   
   with some aspects of reality.  He's also one of the more   
   unpleasant people around.  It is perhaps worth the effort to   
   correct basic errors of fact on his part, but in my opinion   
   it's a waste of time to engage him further, however tempting   
   it may at times be.
