Obviously a wise move. It is always prudent to abandon a cause that has
become hopeless. Germany refused to do so, and look what happened to it
after the war. Finland suffered minor bruises compared to the amputations,
destruction, and almost half a century of national humiliation that
   Germany had to undergo.

There is no honor in a victory or death mindset, particularly if you are
outnumbered more than forty to one and in the post-war environment you
will have the victor as your next-door neighbor. You reach an
accommodation and move on with your life.
