   Indeed. In fact I noticed this sort of behaviour a lot amongst my   
   students when I was teaching the unemployed, so it's not something   
   limited to people who have more than they need. It's all part of the   
   give and take of life.   
      
   I suppose David will now try to argue that they gave something away in   
   order to store up an obligation so that when the situation is reversed,   
   a similar favour will be returned, but this is true of all human   
   interactions, including sex, so I don't think it's relevant.   
      
   The difference between car theft and borrowing a vehicle is consent.   
   This sort of case comes up all the time in our local paper, usually   
   after the youth in question has been stopped and discovered to be   
   driving while drunk and without insurance.
