   It's surely an exaggeration, but it's an exaggeration of a pattern you   
   yourself pointed out in a recent post--physical acts substituting for   
   verbal exchanges. I would expect that sort of physical signaling you   
   described for the case of kissing to be a good deal more common than the   
   explicit "may I kiss you," although I agree that both happen.
