   Assuming you are referring to WWII, the U.S. stopped supporting the USSR   
   because we (the allies) won the war, not because the U.S. smartened up.   
      
   So far as I know, the U.S. didn't provide the USSR with supplies during   
   the initial stage of the Russo-Finnish war, before Finland became an   
   ally, and the USSR an enemy, of Germany. Am I mistaken? So far as I can   
   tell, the western democracies were in favor of Finland in that war,   
   although they didn't do much about it.
