   A lot of research appears to be financed by companies that might create   
   a conflict of interests: namely pharmaceutical companies and their   
   offshoots. University programmes seem more and more to be oriented   
   towards 'industry partnerships' and emphasize the usefulness of results,   
   which further destroys the opportunities to pursue 'pure science.'
