   This design is similar to modern locomotives. The motor runs a   
   generator, and the driving is done by electric motors.   
      
   But in the automotive world, it seems easier to have an entire   
   drivetrain in a trailer that pushes, rather than gets pulled, via the   
   ball-joint hitch.   
      
   There are a couple on the web where someone's taken a small car from   
   the windshield forward, mounted a new gas tank, and run the cruise   
   control through a plug-link to a box on the electric car's dash.
