   I've never seen them advertised. Who makes such a thing? All a search   
   turns up is that BMW is supposed to begin offering one (i3) at the end

   Sure. It all comes down to how big you want to make the generator +   
   fuel module. At the very least you probably want it to power whatever   
   the vehicle requirements are to travel at 55mph. A generator can always   
   run at max efficiency, so you could probably go pretty far with even a 5   
   gallon tank. Embiggen either to cover other use cases.
