I ran into a similar problem early on in my career, when the small
company I was working for laid me off due to one of their customers
choosing to change to an off-the-shelf product instead of custom
programming. I had six months work experience in the programming field
at that point, and was turned down both by companies that wanted people
with at least two years experience, and by companies that wanted new
graduates with no experience. One of the latter companies told me, "We
want people who haven't learned any other company's way of doing things."
