   October Man by Ben Aaronvitch

This is set in the valley of the Mosel in Germany.
The Germans have the equivalent of the Folly and of course except where
killed they have goddesses of the rivers and streams.
Let's call the agent of the special directorate for very unorthodox
   affairs
"Tobi"and his local assistant who is gifted herself. "Vanessa"
A man has been found dead in a ditch infected by the noble rot of the
   grapes.
Tobi is called away from his leave with a family reunion to the city
   of Trier
where where he meets Vanessa and detects magic has been used.
     Vanessa slowly discovers her gifts.
The local river goddess is not too friendly since her mother, the Mosel
goddess has been killed in the course WW II.
In addition she has been given the care of her mother's replacement,
a rather petulant child goddess who fortunately bonds with Tobi and
   Vanessa.

Well it is great Rivers of London story and be sure to read the
   acknowledgements
note at the end to get insight into how Aaronvitch works.

San Francisco City Library went out of its way with this $250.00 signed
   edition
from Subterranean Press in 2019. Just over 200 pages of suspenseful action
and Tobias Winter and Vanessa Sommer do a great job.
By the way I read this story before and was very happy to read a second
   time.
   Ā© Ben Aaronvitch.
