From: quadibloc@ca.invalid              Prior to "I blame two things for this review", the review was just a plot       summary, and it didn't, as far as I could see, say anything about how       terrible the book was.       In the following portion of the review... you noted it was difficult for       you to read the book, and that it was not of high literary quality... but       you didn't really go into the reasons _why_.       So I don't think there was really a book review that covered the book's       flaws there! (But then one could blame the book's badness, or the book's       failure to be your cup of tea, for that problem with the review. Maybe       that's what you meant, and I missed it.)              You can indeed call the book "the right crap at the right time", but I       would instead tend to praise Burroughs' work. It was light entertainment,       and so it did not excel in all respects, but Edgar Rice Burroughs _was_       good at something, and the something that he was good at was something       that many readers greatly appreciated.       George Lucas may not be another Stephen Spielberg, but that didn't stop       Stephen Spielberg from thinking that it would be worthwhile to collaborate       with him.              John Savard              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
