   There are several theories:   
      
   1. Apparently the alien starship that was surveying the Sol system blew   
   up when it passed beyond the system hyper-limit and tried to engage its   
   star drive.   
      
   2. These are simply the exhaust products from its impulse drive.   
      
   3. “They don’t pay us to carry ammunition back home.”   
      
   4. The space ship was venting hot materials to bring the warp coil back   
   down to operation temperature.   
      
   Choose wisely.
