   Charles Stross's fixup _Accelerando_ eventually   
   imagines planets converted entirely to computing   
   matter, probably operating as optimally as   
   possible, but there is reasonable doubt that   
   it is doing anything useful.  Doubt only, because   
   living humans are no longer in the Solar System -   
   so how could they tell?
