|    [OT] Reform announces its candidate for     |
|    08 Jan 26 10:27:38    |
From: no_offline_contact@example.com              Nigel Farage's Reform Party - which has led every single one of the last       200 (!!) polls - has put forward Laila Cunningham as its candidate for       Mayor of London and hopes are strong that she will defeat current Mayor       Sadiq Khan in the next mayoral election, which will be in 2028.              What's interesting about her is that she's a Muslim (like Khan) but a       much more moderate one who has many Jewish friends and appreciates       Jewish culture. She deplores the Muslims involved in the rape gangs that       give moderate Muslims a bad name.              These elections are widely seen as a referendum on the current national       government, led by Labour Party leader Keir Starmer, whose approval       rating is a near-record low of 11% in the most recent polls. Reform is       expected to do very well in the local elections which are coming this       May and then to have a huge victory in the next national election, which       Farage believes will come well before they are due in 2029. (And no, I       don't know why the mayoralty of London does NOT count as a local election.)              Here's a short interview with her:              https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BBg0F9jh1Uw [6 minutes]              Important note: The UK does not have the equivalent of states or       provinces so local elections are a much bigger deal than they are in       Canada or the US which have provincial and state governments. (Wales,       Scotland, and Northern Ireland *do* have their own legislatures for       matters delegated to them but England itself is governed only by       Parliament and local governments.)              --       Rhino              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
