Despite what many people like to claim (including the CBS marketing
officer!), it *is* actually a reboot (gender-swapped, as usual these
days), but the makers were simply making an "in-joke" about the
original show, as has happened in other shows.

"The 2024 version of Matlock is a reboot of the original
1986 television series of the same name, which starred
Andy Griffith. This iteration, notably, flipped the
gender of the lead role, swapping out Griffith's Ben
        Matlock for Bates' Madeline Matlock."

"The show was developed by Jennie Snyder Urman, and draws
from the original Matlock TV series which starred Andy
Griffith, but with a gender flipped lead character
played by Kathy Bates and a vastly different premise
        overall."

If it wasn't a reboot, then why would they bother using the same name -
they could have called it anything, which it has in common to all
idiotic reboots that are unreconisable as having anything to do with
the original they are "based on".
