The problem with using Waymos in a low-trust society like you find in most
blue cities is that the thugs know the things are programmed to stop for
people in the roadway and not do anything that might risk hitting or injury
them. When you're in your own car (or even an Uber), the human behind the
wheel can recognize the second order danger and choose to accelerate away,
even it means hitting a criminal in the process. The Waymo cannot make that
decision. So when a thug walks out in front of a Waymo, its software just
forces it to stop and leave you vulnerable to the diversity that will then
surround the car and rob you. (Possibly do worse if the customer is female.)

This has happened many times in L.A., which makes using a Waymo like playing
   Russian roulette.
