I can't say I'm       particularly sad about it, although I'm still not sure if the new media       landscape will be entirely to our liking either.              It seems like the main feature of new media is that they will be far       smaller and will take a clear point of view instead of pretending to be       neutral. That at least is more honest than what the old media do when       they claim to be neutral and are actually anything but that. It will       make media consumers look at more outlets if they want to avoid being       told just what they want to hear in an endless loop of confirmation bias.              Another key feature is that new media will have far fewer resources so       won't have big fancy studios and large staffs of foreign correspondents.       But they may make up for that by using local volunteers or staff to       report on developments in distant locations. Those people may be far       better informed about what's going on because they're local but they may       also be more heavily biased either for or against the local regime.              --       Rhino              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
