Plenty of obituaries ae available on line.

I wanted to note that in an old career interview, Robert Duvall named
his best role as Gus McCrae, in Lonesome Dove (1989), the epic miniseries
for CBS adapted from the 1985 Larry McMurty novel. Duvall had called the
character one of the greatest in literature and that it was a privilege
to play him. Duvall was initially offered Woodrow Call but said he'd
played that type of character too many times, asking to play Gus.

It was the season's highest-rated miniseries and higher rater than any
made-for-tv movie that season. Who says viewers aren't hungry for
   quality television?
