British police have arrested Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor (formerly known
as Prince Andrew) on his 66th birthday to "help them with their
inquiries" over his possible misuse of office to pass sensitive
information about trade to people who weren't supposed to see it while
he was involved in Epstein's circle of friends and acquaintances. It's
the first arrest of a senior British Royal since the 1600s during the
English Civil War. (That arrest was of King Charles I and resulted in
his arrest for treason, a trial by Parliament, and his trial, conviction
   and beheading!)

Andrew has not been charged with anything yet and if he tells a
satisfactory story, he may simply be released without charges in a few
hours. Or things could go the other way. His elder brother, King
Charles, has made a statement that he will co-operate fully with the
authorities and that no one is above the law. Police have already
executed a search warrant on two of the ex-Prince's properties.

It's going to be interesting to see how much help the Royal Family gives
Andrew with respect to his legal defence; I'm sure the lawyers involved
won't come cheap. I don't know how much money Andrew has to pay for
them. King Charles may object to him using some sources of money if
using them reflects badly on Charles or the Royal Family in general.

The British press is already speculating that this event may see Andrew
leave Britain entirely and go into foreign exile, much like Edward VIII
did when he abdicated the throne to marry his twice-divorced American
sweetheart Wallis Warfield Simpson in 1936. A foreign exile somehow
seems more likely than Andrew actually going to prison but I suppose
that even a stint in one of her His Majesty's prisons is not entirely
   out of the question.
