   Not true. California Democrats have been trying to get rid of the independent   
   redistricting commission for years. They had the new maps drawn up in   
   anticipation of it long before Trump was even reelected. This was not done in   
   response to Trump or Texas. Even as Newsom was bloviating to the TV cameras   
   that "if Texas backs down, so will we", the actual enabling legislation that   
   put the constitutional amendment on the ballot specifically said, "This will   
   be done regardless of what happens with Texas redistricting."
