   : Sure, but that's mainly because humans naturally have no faculty to   
   : absolutely measure a position on the surface of a spheroid.  We were   
   : stuck with navigation using relative, landmark objects at different   
   : scales (hence the pseduo-endian-ness of an address).  With widespread   
   : adoption of GPS, technology has given us a good way to fix that.   
      
   Except of course that GPS technology is still just an arbitrary,   
   relative measurement.  In fact, there's no such *thing* as an absolute   
   position; the very notion of a "position" is inherrently relative, and   
   this has arguably been known since Galileo, and definitely since Newton.
