   At one point, Superman confronts Lex Luthor, but Lex Luthor tells him that he   
   is holding Martha hostage and will kill her in an hour unless Superman brings   
   him Batman's head.    
      
   Superman therefore goes to find Batman to solicit his help, but Batman instead   
   fights him.  After a long fight, Batman has weakened Superman with Kryptonite   
   gas and is about to finish him off when Superman finally gets around to   
   telling him about Martha.    
    Superman's mention of Matha's plight persuades Batman to spare him.    
      
   Why for God's sake didn't Superman tell Batman about Martha the moment he came   
   close enough to talk to him, and while Superman was still hovering in the air   
   out of Batman's reach?
