The Prequel Trilogy was "refined" but others as well.
Depending on who you want to believe, JJ Abrmas' horrible
supposed-sequel-but-really-just-a-lazy-ass-reboot "Episode VII" was
originally going to be based on ideas George Lucas was already working
on before selling out, but it was then completely re-written, twice.

At least part of the problem with "Rogue One" was that none of the
characters / actors had any charisma, so you simply didn't care less
what happened to them.
It's also becoming rather boring always dragging in the same old
characters and places into *everything*. If they want to make
standalone movies, then make them completely separate. It's a *massive*
universe with billions of other stories, so there's no need to always
have Darth Vader, etc. turning up.
According to rumour / speculation based on a recent Ron Howard tweeted
image, the Han Solo movie may also suffer from the same issue by
pointlessly including the Death Star yet again.
The "Rebels" animated show started off really well becuase it was a
separate story, but then they ruined it by draggin ing Darth Maul,
Darth Vader, Tarkin, Asohka, etc.
