|    The Religious Meaning of Logan's Run    |

From: nospam@thx.com              Logan's Run is a 1976 sci-fi movie in which descendants of survivors       of a global catastrophe live in a domed high-tech city. All young they       must enter Carousel on their 30th birthdays. Those who flee Carousel       are referred to as "Runners" and mercilessly hunted down by security       personnel know as "Sandmen."              Sanctuary represents heaven. The ankh represents a cross. Is there       Sanctuary?              There is a separate theology, involving Reincarnation. This is       represented by Carousel. But the master computer suggests to Logan       there is no Reincarnation. The master computer orders Logan to find       and destroy Sanctuary. Is this then a battle between two religions,       Hinduism and Christianity? Does the master computer represent Atheism?              The master computer doesn't know if there is Sanctuary, but really       wants to know.              Box is some kind of humanoid robot. He says he is both human and       robot. He once maintained frozen stores of plankton and fish, but says       his supplies stop coming, and then he began to trap and freeze       Runners. What does Box represent? The merging of human and machine?              Safety Stan              --- SoupGate-Win32 v1.05        * Origin: you cannot sedate... all the things you hate (1:229/2)    |
